Liz Truss, launched the inaugural episode of her online program with a promise to reveal "the evil-doers" attempting to weaken Western democracies. She explained she would reveal how an "global web of leftists function to weaken popular rule and the public's choice."

"We will examine the political movement of Donald Trump and observe how it can be achieved in Britain," Truss declared. "Our guests will include the leading lights of the Make America Great Again campaign."

In advance of the series premiere, there was one particularly enthusiastic supporter. "This represents the dawn of a sort of political shift," stated the controversial US journalist. His conservative Just the News platform will carry the former prime minister's new broadcasts.

Establishing Ties in the Maga Media Ecosystem

British fellow travellers, such as a pro-Reform adviser, played a role in her set up the Liz Truss Show. The setup is adequate, though simple. Truss has amassed a subscriber base of 10k in her debut week and her first episode had tens of thousands of views during that week.

This marks a small opening, but in aligning with Solomon, she is being thrust into a well-developed right-wing media network creating and spreading pro-Trump narratives. Central preoccupations involve claims of media suppression by the mainstream media and a goal to eradicate a conspiratorial 'deep state' – which Truss blames for the rapid conclusion of her calamitous premiership.

"Solomon's outlet is not widely recognized past the Maga world, but it does have influence there, mostly due to its founder, who gives commentary on conservative outlets like Bannon's 'War Room' podcast and has even questioned the former president," commented Professor Alex Hinton, who has extensively researched the Trumpist political wave.

A Contentious Ally

The former PM's foray to bring American conservative media to the UK has drawn her nearer to controversial figures such as John Solomon.

He founded Just the News after criticism following accusations of circulating inaccurate reports about the President's actions in Ukraine, as well as disputed reports about ex-ambassador to the region.

Solomon's reporting were echoed across the pro-Trump media, with Solomon featuring as a frequent visitor on the prominent Fox News program. Trump himself boosted his stories.

Solomon made the Ukraine claims in a number of opinion pieces for the political newspaper the Hill, where he was re-designated as an opinion writer following internal criticism regarding his reporting. These reports were key in Trump's demand for the Ukrainians to probe the Bidens in that year. This pressure culminated in impeachment charges targeting Donald Trump. The Senate later voted to acquit the president.

Shortly after the journalist departed the publication in late 2019, the outlet revealed it was conducting a review of his reporting concerning Ukraine. It determined he had relied on questionable informants and noted he "failed to identify crucial information about key Ukrainian sources, such as the detail that they had been charged or were being probed."

Entering the Ecosystem

The journalist's personal media appearances are a sign of the conservative ecosystem Truss is entering. He discussed his endorsement of her new show on a show he co-hosts on the right-wing channel, a rightwing cable channel that is home to the pro-Trump commentator former adviser Steve Bannon and on which former Fox host Tucker Carlson also appears. Truss has already spoken with Steve Bannon on a debut installment.

Through her association with the journalist and his outlet, she has become a minor player in a much wider network of pro-Trump platforms that often cross-promote stories.

The journalist's programs have repeatedly hosted personalities such as Mike Benz, a rightwing influencer whose disparagement of the US Agency for International Development was cited by Elon Musk as grounds for shutting down the government body.

A Global Media Play

While her awkward delivery and career difficulties have invited ridicule in Britain, some US observers do not dismiss her efforts to revamp her image as a UK offshoot of the Make America Great Again press.

"One must regard people like Truss seriously, even if you may not want to interpret them word-for-word," stated a former Biden White House aide, who was employed in the Biden administration.

"It was evident how in the recent campaign the former president leveraged that ecosystem to get his message out. Undoubtedly that network spreads and shapes discourse internationally. It appears quite apparent to me that the conditions in the United Kingdom are akin to what allowed this parallel press sphere to thrive in America."

a political theory expert, said the digital right-wing media sphere was already making its presence felt in the United Kingdom.

"Online platforms transcends national boundaries," he stated. "There's a kind milieu within which stuff flows – sometimes appearing in harsh versions and other times more moderately – but which is connected."

The academic said the rise of the online right in the UK lately meant the "potential to have a growing impact is significant."
