Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51 Million Audience Members In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extended clash where the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total 51 million watchers across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB stated this is the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game drew 27.33 million viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match series recorded over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the total US average was 16.1 million. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and the network’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the World Series was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen different languages.
