Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from his teammate by just one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he lost control at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran ended the session in P19, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
