Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the final moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
