Patriots Equal Longest Victory Run Since Brady Years with Win Against Jets
First-year player Henderson has scored five TDs in the present year
The New England Patriots matched their best victory streak from the Brady period as they overcame AFC East opponents the Jets by 13 points in the NFL
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson led the way with three TDs as the New England squad secured an eight-game winning streak for the initial occasion since iconic QB Brady's last year with the team in the 2019 season
Quarterback Drake Maye threw for 281 yards and a TD, connecting on 25 out of 34 attempts
The triumph extends the Patriots advantage at the summit of the division as they moved to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets bottom after slipping to a 2-8 mark
The visitors had gone in front at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Fields running in a five-yard touchdown to finish the Jets' first possession
But the Patriots fought back in the second period as the rookie rushed for two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back caught a pass from Maye at the back of the end zone halfway into the third period to make it 21-7
"That was a crucial moment for him rising to the challenge, and it's been fantastic for him to keep getting these reps," Maye commented on Henderson. "He desires to be outstanding."
Fields connected with John Metchie toward the end of the third period to reduce the lead for the visitors but Andy Borregales kicked a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the home side closed out the victory
