'People are fearful' - the reasons 'powerhouse' Arsenal have become the team to beat.

There's little doubt why Arsenal have become numerous fans' favorites to win the Premier League this season.

Look at their results against Fulham and Crystal Palace in contrast with those equivalent matches in the previous campaign.

The Gunners have beaten all of them in the current season, but dropped 10 points across those games as they faded in the title race previously.

Impenetrable Backline

Arsenal's defensive strength is a crucial element why they are looking well positioned to ultimately achieve their title ambition.

They rank top for shutouts (6), goals conceded (3), attempts against (72), shots on target faced (19) and expected goals against (5.3).

The central defensive pairing of Gabriel and William Saliba is potentially the strongest in the league, with Arsenal keeping a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Set-Piece Expertise

Their effectiveness from free kicks is widely recognized, but opposition teams still don't know how to stop the Gunners from these opportunities.

They have scored 11 times from set-pieces in the league, several additional than any other side, with 69% of their goals originating from these situations.

"Arsenal can perform multiple roles now. The whole team has a intimidation presence. People are just wary of them and it is excellent to see."

Championship Credentials

What is particularly remarkable about Arsenal's beginning to the campaign is they have also faced Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United away from home and Manchester City on home turf - and are still ahead by four points at the top.

While they maintain victories, their historic competitors aren't faring so well. This marks the first time at this stage of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The expectations was on boss Mikel Arteta at the outset, having invested around £250m on eight summer additions in quest of that long-awaited first title since 2004.

But the investment has so far paid off in impressive fashion, with his side second top scorers in the league and possessing the tightest defense, despite numerous injuries.

  • Shutouts in three consecutive Premier League games
  • Over six hours without allowing a goal
  • Only three goals in 12 games across every tournament

Former players and experts have labeled Arteta's men as a "unstoppable force, looking difficult to stop" with the whole club now functioning with belief and determination.
