The Princess of Wales's Yearly Yuletide Carol Concert Honours Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will hear a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The central message of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists aided by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to increase availability of music lessons.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in the concert.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
